Fl. 104 mm wide; perianth segments broadly ovate, mucronate, inflexed, somewhat creased, overlapping 1/3; cup is cylindrical, lightly ribbed, rich yellow, mouth more strongly ribbed widely expanded, with rim crenate. Resembles an earlier-flowering ‘Empress’ but is slower to multiply and has less substance to the perianth segments.
“Absorbed” ‘Mrs. Harrison Weir’, ‘President Garfield’ (Named in honor of the 20th president of the United States, James Garfield.) and ‘Sir Robert Peel’.
Chromosome count is 22 or 21+B.
Named for the hybridizer, John Horsefield who was a Lancashire handloom weaver.
