Wilfred Hall
Cambridge, New Zealand; Levin
Wilfred HallFls 5-7 per stem, rounded, 50 mm wide; perianth segments very broad in outline, blunt or squarish at apex, sometimes truncate, spreading, concave, creased, of heavy substance, overlapping half or more; corona more or less disc-shaped, ribbed, with mouth wavy and rim entire.
In the hybridizer’s words: “Along with Abraxis another name with a musical association. The rounded florets with the shallow saucer shaped coronas suggested the name nickel as in the coin, but Nickelodeon is also another name for a juke box. The song “put another nickel in, in the nickledeon” is also another reminder of my early interest in popular music.”
